The DLTC offers part-time English language courses in the evenings which are aimed at those studying for the Cambridge English exams: First Certificate - FCE, Cambridge Advanced - CAE, etc). See University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations website for more information about the Cambridge suite of exams.
Students can begin these courses at any time during the year and can continue with the course as long as they want or need. The shortest period is for 4 weeks but we recommend at least 12 weeks for students who wish to sit a Cambridge exam. Students only have to pay for 4 weeks at any time and there is no registration fee - so if you want to continue at the end of 4 weeks, you just pay for the next 4 weeks.
Students can study for the exams at the DLTC and then apply to sit the exam at University College Dublin which administers the Cambridge exams in Dublin. For more information on exams, timetables, and exam fees, see UCD Applied Language Centre Examinations. Exam dates are available here: UCD Cambridge Exam Dates
The classes cover the five main parts of the Cambridge exams: Use of English (Grammar), Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. Extra emphasis is given to Speaking practice as most students can generally study Grammar on their own but need to practice their speaking.
Maximum class size is 11 students per class although the average is often only 7 students per class.
Classes are also open to those who do not wish to sit the exams but want to improve their English.
Classes include a short break when coffee, tea and soft-drinks are available.
