The DLTC runs English language & activity courses during the summer for groups of juniors aged between 12-17 years. The courses are held at a local secondary school in the beautiful, upmarket and safe environment of Dun Laoghaire. Classes take place during weekday mornings between 9.15 and 12.30am. Afternoon activities include sports and half-day excursions to places of interest and entertainment. One full-day excursion takes place each Saturday and two evening activities are provided each week. Students stay in carefully selected full-board 'homestay' accommodation with local host families. For more information:
The DLTC is located in Dun Laoghaire, a beautiful seaside suburb of Dublin. Dun Laoghaire is an ideal place for students under-18 years of age - see for a photos of the school and local area:
It is a very safe but lively area with all the amenities of a busy town centre: two shopping centres, a multi-screen cinema, theatres, a library, museums, cafes, parks, beaches and the famous James Joyce museum.
If that's not enough, Dublin city centre, with all its famous attractions, is only a 20 minute journey away by commuter train.
20 minutes in the opposite direction is Bray and the foothills of the picturesque Wicklow mountains.
Our Summer Junior Group English classes take place at a local national school in Dun Laoghaire. The school is:
served by four bus routes (2 minutes walk)
10 minutes from Dun Laoghaire DART (commuter train) station
a five minute walk from the main shopping areas of Dun Laoghaire.
Summer Junior Group activities take place at a variety of locations depending on the activity. Most of the sports activities take place on the school campus. For sample activities and their locations see the Activities section below.
Students are provided with full-board 'homestay' accommodation with local host families.
Host family provides breakfast, packed/picnic lunch, and cooked evening meal.
The families are carefully selected and each home is visited by the school director.
No two students of the same mother tongue are placed in the same house.
The homestays are all located within a short distance of the school (5-30 minutes by foot, bus or DART). Homestay students are provided with commuter bus tickets for travelling to and from school and for city trips. In general, every effort is made to place younger students in homes nearest the school.
As time spent with the family is important for the students to practice their English, families are encouraged to have their meals with the students and to spend Sunday doing some activity with them. In the same way, students are encouraged to spend time with the family and become involved in family life.
Classes take place between 9.15-12.30 every weekday morning - 4x45 minute classes totalling 20 classes (15 tuition hours) per week (15 minute break at 10:45am.)
Teachers are experienced EFL teachers and fully qualified to Department of Education standards.
All class materials are provided.
Level tests take place on the first morning and students are assigned to a suitable class.
Certificates are awarded at end of course.
There are no more than 15 students per class with an average of 12.
Sample weekend excursions: Waterworld water fun park, Ferrycarrig National Park, Kilkenny Castle, Wicklow National Park, Greenan Museum, Maze, and Farm sports.
